Micro Grid Project on Eswatini Revenue Service

Project Scale: 500kW + 150kWh ESS + 350kWp Solar

Recently, the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) Micro-grid EPC Project, deeply involved by LIVOLTEK, Hexing Group and Hexing Electrical South Africa (Pty) LTD, was successfully launched.

The project is led by Eswatini Revenue Service, with Hexing Electrical South Africa (Pty) LTD as the general EPC contractor. This marks a significant breakthrough for Hexing Group in the low-voltage microgridfield.

As a provider of new energy technologies, Livoltek supplied the core components for the project, including the PCS, BESS, Solar Inverters, and EMS (Gestão de energia System), collectively creating an efficient and stable microgrid system.

The project fully demonstrates Hexing Group and Livoltek’s system integrazãon capabilities and international EPC project management strength in the new energy field.

Solving Power Instability Issues and Promoting Green Energy Transformation

Eswatini has long faced challenges with unstable power supply and frequent power outages, with each power cut lasting up to 4 hours, severely impacting local economic development and residents’ lives. As a major electricity consumer, ERS uses up to 110 MWh of electricity per month and relies on diesel generators to suporte the load during power outages. This results in a monthly diesel consumption of over a thousand liters, which is not only costly but also puts significant pressure on the environment.

To address this challenge, Livoltek, in collaborazãon with Hexing South Africa, tailored an efficient and reliable microgrid solution for ERS. The project utilizes an AC coupling scheme, integrating rooftop photovoltaics, energy storage battery cabinets, PCS, and EMS, alongside the client’s existing diesel generator. This created a flexible, intelligent microgrid system. The integrated solution of photovoltaics, energy storage, and diesel generazãon provides a reliable power supply to the client while reducing operazãonal costs.

Project Highlights: A Perfect Combination of Technological Innovation and Efficient Operazãon

Smart Gestão de energia for Flexible Control

The core equipment of the project includes Livoltek’s self-developed EMS, 500kW PCS, 5 sets of 225kWh BESS, and 6 units of 60kW Grid-tied Solar Inverters. Through the EMS system, the project achieves comprehensive monitoring and intelligent control of microgrid equipment, suporteing various operating modes such as peak shaving, energy arbitrage, and reducing transformer demand, significantly improving energy utilization efficiency.

Seamless Switching to Ensure Power Supply

The system is grid-connected on the 0.4kV low-voltage side, suportes black start functionality, and achieves seamless switching between grid-connected and off-grid states. This design ensures that essential loads continue to operate stably during power outages, greatly enhancing the reliability of the power supply.

Green Energy to Reduce Carbon Emissions

The project is expected to generate 551.8 MWh in its first year, with a total generazãon of 12,609.7 MWh over 25 years and an average annual output of 504.4 MWh. By combining solar PV and energy storage, the project significantly reduces reliance on diesel generazãon, cutting down on diesel consumption each year, and making a significant contribution to Eswatini’s green energy transition and sustainable development goals.

Economic, Environmental, and Social Value: A Win-Win-Win Scenario

Economic Benefits

By reducing electricity procurement costs and diesel consumption, the project has significantly decreased the operazãonal expenses of ERS, delivering substantial economic benefits to the customer.

Environmental Benefits

The project’s significant annual reduction in diesel consumption and carbon emissions provides strong suporte for Eswatini’s green energy development, helping the country achieve its carbon neutrality and sustainable development goals.

Replication and Empowerment Across Africa

As Eswatini’s first microgrid project, it serves as a stable and operazãonal modelo for government institutions like ERS. Its replicability and scalability make it a valuable reference for similar scenarios in other African countries, further driving the sustainable development of Africa’s energy market.

Technological Leadership and Benchmark Demonstrazãon

This project marks Hexing Group’s first microgrid initiative in Eswatini, utilizing Livoltek’s self-developed grid-tied inverters, energy storage systems, and EMS. From design and procurement to delivery, Hexing Group has taken full ownership, establishing a significant milestone in its renewable energy market expansion in South Africa.

Livoltek: Leading Renewable Energy Technology, Empowering Global Energy Transition

As the core equipment supplier and system integrator for the project, Livoltek has demonstrated its leading technological expertise in the renewable energy sector through its self-developed PV inverters, energy storage systems, and energy management systems. The successful implementation of this project not only marks a significant milestone in Livoltek’s internationalization strategy but also further solidifies its industry leadership in microgrid system integrazãon.

Looking ahead, Livoltek will continue to uphold the philosophy of “innovation-driven, green development,” providing efficient and reliable renewable energy solutions to global customers.
